Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease that damages the protective covering surrounding nerve fibers in the brain, eyes, and spinal cord. The symptoms include vision loss, pain, fatigue, and impaired coordination. At Re-Gen Fitness and Recovery, we have multiple therapies that can reduce the symptoms and progression of Multiple Sclerosis and may even help prevent the onset of the disease itself. These include Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy, Infrared Heat Therapy, High Quality Nutritional Supplements, and Guided Fitness Programs.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is an effective therapy to treat the symptoms of MS. Research has shown it has the ability to reduce fatigue, depression and physical disability while improving cognitive function, bladder function, and motor function, among other symptoms. For instance, in one study, 20 1-hour HBOT sessions led to an improvement in visual acuity, muscle spasticity, and a 32% lower relapse rate compared to a control group. Another study of 20 1-hour sessions found a significant improvement in quality of life, while a third study showed that 20 1-hour sessions could lead to a significant improvement in disability status in individuals with MS.

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF)

Studies have shown that PEMF is able to decrease fatigue and improves quality of life in subjects with Multiple Sclerosis. For instance, in a study of 37 MS patients, 12 weeks of PEMF was shown to decrease daily fatigue compared to a control group. In other studies PEMF was shown to improve bladder control, pain, cognitive function, mobility, mood, vision, and fluidity of movement in subjects with MS.

Cryotherapy

A common symptom of multiple sclerosis is heat sensitivity, as increased body temperature worsens MS symptoms. This has led to research determining if decreasing body temperature can lead to decreases in MS symptoms, and in fact, studies have shown that cryotherapy can produce improvements in gait, vision, muscle strength, and coordination in those with multiple sclerosis. Cryotherapy has also been shown to increase the levels of “cold shock proteins”, which are neuroprotective proteins in the brain

Targeted Nutritional Supplementation

At Re-Gen, we also utilize high quality nutritional supplements that have been shown to help reduce or reverse symptoms related to Multiple Sclerosis. Research has shown that Vitamin D3 and Omega-3s (found in our Healthy Aging Blend), Vitamin C and E (found in our Antioxidant Blend), among others, can reduce the symptoms of MS.

Guided Fitness and Flexibility Training

Fitness and flexibility training are crucial to the health and physical function of people who are experiencing Multiple Sclerosis. However, this can be difficult with the fatigue and mobility and coordination issues common with MS. At Re-Gen, our fitness and flexibility training is custom to each client, managed by our lead physiologist, and constantly supervised by our trained fitness specialists, all of whom have many years of experience working with individuals suffering from a wide array of health conditions, including Multiple Sclerosis. Through a rehabilitative and structured approach, in combination with recovery, we have been able to greatly improve the quality of life and physical capabilities of clients with multiple sclerosis.
