Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson's disease is a condition where brain cells degenerate, causing impaired cognition, mood, balance, and uncontrollable movements, such as shaking, stiffness, and difficulty with coordination. Symptoms usually begin gradually and worsen over time. Here at Re-Gen Fitness and Recovery, we have multiple therapies that can reduce the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease, and may even help prevent the progression and/or onset of the disease itself.

Hyperbaric Oxygen

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) can reduce the neurodegeneration that leads to the development of Parkinson's, and can slow or even stop its symptoms. In fact, studies have shown that 33 HBOT sessions were able to improve coordination, balance and movement speed and fluidity in subjects with Parkinson’s disease, while another showed that 10 sessions could reduce tremors and improve feelings of well-being.

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy

Another therapy we utilize here is pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF), which has been shown to improve the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease by stimulating neuron activity in the brain and muscles, while also increasing blood flow throughout the body and brain. Research has shown its ability to increase the speed and fluidness of movement and improve walking speed in patients with Parkinson’s disease. The FDA has also approved the use of PEMF for treatment of depression in Parkinson’s patients.

Cryotherapy and Infrared Heat Therapy

Both cryotherapy and infrared heat therapy have been shown to reduce the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. One of the major contributors to the development of Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative diseases is the misfolding of proteins in the brain, which interfere with the function of brain cells. Cryotherapy increases the production of “cold shock proteins” which suppress the damage to brain cells. They also help remove damaged brain cells, which prevents them from collecting in the brain and interfering with healthy brain function. Infrared heat therapy leads to the production of “heat shock proteins” which provide a line of defense against the misfolding of proteins and help them to fold properly. Together, these two therapies can help fortify you against the development of neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and may help to reduce the severity of its symptoms.

Targeted Nutritional Supplementation

At Re-Gen, we also utilize high quality nutritional supplements that have been shown to help reduce or reverse symptoms related to Parkinson’s Disease. Research has shown that Vitamin D3, Omega-3s, CoQ10(found in our Healthy Aging Blend), Vitamin C, and Curcumin(found in our Antioxidant Blend), among others, can reduce the negative symptoms and improve the recovery of Parkinson’s Disease.

Guided Fitness and Flexibility Training

Fitness and flexibility training are crucial to the health and physical function in individuals who are experiencing Parkinson’s disease. However, this can be difficult when movement is already being disrupted. At Re-Gen, our fitness and flexibility training is custom to the client, managed by our lead physiologist and constantly supervised by our trained fitness specialists, all of whom have many years of experience working with individuals suffering from a wide array of health conditions, including Parkinson’s disease.
