Wound Healing

Wound Healing

Wounds and injuries are common, but when your body is in a state of inflammation or other health conditions persist, wounds can heal slowly and poorly. This can lead to increased pain, make you more prone to infections, and limit your ability for physical activity and activities of daily life. However, at Re-Gen Fitness and Recovery, we have several therapies that can accelerate wound healing and ensure the proper recovery from your wound or injury. These include:

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

HBOT has been shown to significantly improve the healing of chronic and acute wounds by increasing fibroblastic activity, tissue oxygenation, and reducing the inflammatory reaction caused by injury. For example, a study on chronic diabetic ulcers found that 60 HBOT sessions significantly increased oxygenation and had an antimicrobial effect on soft tissue, decreasing wound size by 52% versus controls. Another study examining a wide range of injuries found that 20 HBOT sessions significantly reduced wound inflammation, decreased healing time by 50%, and reduced the need for surgery. A third study found that 30 HBOT sessions significantly reduced the size and recurrence of scarring by 50% and increased healing efficiency by 10%.

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF)

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy has shown a significant ability to reduce pain, increase blood flow, and improve mobility in individuals with injuries. For example, a study conducted on patients with fractures demonstrated a significant decrease in pain and a 20% increase in the ability to perform functional tasks after 3 months of PEMF use. Another study found that 40 PEMF sessions increased bone density by 25%, aiding in the recovery from bone breaks. The study also found that early intervention with PEMF resulted in a 22% increased bone mineral density and recovery then those treated with late PEMF therapy. This demonstrates that early intervention with PEMF can significantly improve the healing power and accelerate its effects.

Infrared Heat Therapy and Cryotherapy

Infrared heat has shown the ability to significantly heal soft tissue wounds and injuries by increasing stem cell production that aids in regenerating damaged tissues. For example, a study on ulcers and puncture wounds demonstrated chronic infrared heat resulted in a 22% increase in healing compared to standard wound care. Whole-body cryotherapy has also demonstrated its significance in reducing pain and swelling from injuries and increasing recovery time. Multiple studies on knee ligament repair demonstrated that cold therapy decreased the need for pain medication by 67%. Another study utilizing cryotherapy demonstrated a 33% reduction in swelling after 24 hours for individuals with ankle fractures. These individuals returned to functional movement multiple days sooner than controls.

Targeted Nutritional Supplementation

At Re-Gen, we offer high-quality nutritional supplements that have been shown to increase the efficacy of the wound healing process. Research has shown that protein, collagen, arginine, and glutamine (found in our Muscle Building/Recovery Blend) aid in tissue repair. Glutamine also plays a role in protecting against infection. Vitamin C, E, and turmeric (in our Anti-Inflammation Blend) also aid in cell healing and reduce inflammation. Magnesium, calcium, zinc, and vitamin D3 (in our Bone Health Blend) plays an important role in tissue repair and protein synthesis, and also supportive of the bone healing process.

Functional Guided Fitness Programs

Healing efficiency decreases as we age and injury is often accompanied with impaired neuroendocrine responses and limited mobility. However, studies have demonstrated that older adults who engaged in functional exercise for 3 months experienced significant improvements in increased healing from injuries, including a 28% decreased healing period. Utilizing functional guided fitness programs that include recovery can increase your rate of healing, limit your symptoms, and cement long-term improvements to your physical abilities.
