Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a condition in which bone cells die and are not replaced with new ones. This condition is typically accompanied by pain, poor posture, and a greater risk of injury. Osteopenia is a more mild form of Osteoporosis. Both are known for their inflammatory effects at a cellular level, which can influence bone loss. Here at Re-Gen, we offer services that can help your body efficiently produce new bone cells and increase bone mineral density, reducing the effects of these conditions and improving how you feel and move.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

Although research is limited on the effects of HBOT on Osteoporosis and osteopenia, it has shown that it can significantly increase bone cell growth and reduce bone cell death. For instance, one study demonstrated that 25 HBOT sessions led to a 50% reduction in the genes that initiate bone cell death. HBOT has also been shown to decrease inflammation and reduce the risk of fractures and injuries by increasing bone cells.

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF)

PEMF has been shown to aid in the treatment of Osteoporosis and osteopenia as well. In fact, a study of 36 sessions (3 times a week), found that bone mineral density increased significantly over 12 weeks, with an accompanied improvement in quality of life and a reduced risk of falls. The effects of these sessions lasted up to 6 months. Two more studies demonstrated that 30-60 sessions of PEMF therapy greatly increased bone mineral density and promoted bone formation. This increase in bone mineral density provides strength and stability to bone structures, allowing for improvements in movement, balance, and injury risk during everyday life.

Cryotherapy and Infrared Heat Therapy

Cryotherapy and infrared heat have been utilized as supplemental treatment to reduce the symptoms associated with Osteoporosis and osteopenia. For example, infrared heat therapy has been shown to reduce the symptoms of pain and inflammation associated with Osteoporosis and osteopenia, and has been shown to improve flexibility and reduce the risk of falls. In fact, one study found that infrared heat can cause stem cells to become new bone cells. Cryotherapy has been used as a rehabilitative therapy for Osteoporosis and osteopenia as well. One study found that 20 treatments, over 4 weeks, resulted in significant reduction in knee pain severity, an improvement in walking and movement, and an increase in bone density of the femur.

Targeted Nutritional Supplementation

At Re-Gen, we offer specifically designed supplements that can improve Osteoporosis and osteopenia. An important nutrient in bones is vitamin D, as it is responsible for the absorption of calcium. However most people in North America are deficient in vitamin D and can only get adequate amounts through supplements. At Re-Gen, we have a supplement blend that contains vitamin D3 and Beta Carotene (our Healthy Aging Blend), that aids in the formation of collagen, new bone cells, and mineralization of the bone. Other nutrients involved in building healthy bones are protein and collagen (found in our Muscle Building and Recovery Blend), both of which improve the mineral structure of bones. Lastly, our Antioxidant Blend contains nutrients that have been shown to eliminate inflammation and improve cellular health.

Guided Fitness and Recovery

The combination of recovery therapies and strength training has been shown to significantly increase the rate of bone formation and density of the bones. The mechanical signals experienced during weightlifting enhance the body’s ability to grow new bones, while recovery eliminates inflammation and stimulates new bone growth. In fact, several studies have paired strength training with PEMF and have demonstrated a significantly greater increase in bone when compared to exercise or PEMF alone. Another study examined cryotherapy in combination with exercise 5 times a week, for 6 weeks, and found that new bone creation increased significantly when compared with just exercise alone.
